Not every young person has a strong handle on what they want their future to be, with goals and a great understanding of what will be necessary to reach those goals. For many of those approaching adulthood, the guidance and belief in their ability to reach those goals is what sustains them in their efforts.

For too many, and one is too many, that support is lacking or even non-existant. When betrayal, or perceived betrayal, by adults, even parents who are expected to provide that sustenance fail, the results can be devastating. We see it in the news every day, every time a young person fails to respect or trust others having learned it is not a part of their own lives.

Some young people are strong enough to rely on their own belief in their ability and continue to move forward. Others meet the one person who can change their lives for the better and walk alongside them through the toughest of times, without judgment, without betrayal, without deserting them.  These are the angels that every young adult book should contain.
